Victoria Sambunaris
Photographs
October 2 - November 2, 2001

The first solo gallery exhibition of the work of Victoria Sambunaris. Sambunaris photographs the landscape of American industry: large-scale distribution complexes, truck depots and vast warehouses under construction. Her interest is in landscape, both industrial and natural, and in the level of abstraction and even beauty to be found in a delicate balance of the two. For her most recent photographs, Sambunaris traveled out west through Iowa and Montana. Here she continues to seek out the same minimal, often monolithic, industrial structures yet surrounded here by a landscape that is overwhelmingly, almost breathtakingly, vast. Sambunaris is a recent graduate of Yale University where she received her MFA from the Department of Photography.

"Workplace," a simultaneous exhibition of Sambunaris' photographs of the interiors of industrial workspaces will be exhibited at the offices of Deborah Berke Architects.

Post exhibition note: Victoria will be working with the prestigious Lannan Foundation in 2002 who have included many of her works in their collection.
